Founder and Director of Value Up
Mike Donahue is the founder and director of Value Up, a nationally recognized and Nebraska-based organization dedicated to promoting positive school culture and student well-being. Over the past three decades, Mike has spoken live to more than one million students across the United States and around the world—including Asia, South America, and Europe. He is the author of four influential books: Reinventing My Normal, Hidden Scars, Talking to Brick Walls, and his latest, Value Up.
Recognized as a leading voice on issues such as respect, bullying, resilience, and school climate, Mike is a highly sought-after speaker known for his authenticity and dynamic delivery. His engaging style resonates deeply with students and educators alike, and he has shared the stage with prominent figures such as NFL Commissioner Roger Goodell and former U.S. Secretary of Education Arne Duncan.
Through years of partnering with thousands of schools and listening to students and educators, Mike has come to a profound insight: many of today’s teen struggles stem from a distorted view of self-worth. When students recognize their intrinsic value—the unchangeable worth they carry simply by being human—they begin to make healthier life choices and treat others with greater respect. Value Up was created to amplify that sense of worth in every student, leading to stronger, more compassionate school communities.
Originally from Boston and a proud veteran of the United States Air Force, Mike now lives in Minden, Nebraska with his wife Rachel. Together, they have five children. Mike has devoted his life to helping young people recognize their own inherent value and the importance of valuing others.
